Food was creative, innovative and, for the most part, tasty. Mackerel with beets and chicken with fig highlights. Oysters too. Service was not great, especially given cost. We did a 5 course wine pairing, but the wines arrived well after the food twice. We mentioned it and then red came well ahead of next course. Not an ideal course correction. Pours were very light -- think thimble, not glass. The two reds with our meal were very good. Service was a bit dismissive of us as Americans who don't speak French. The wait staff basically recoiled the moment we acknowledged only speaking a little French. That said, it was all in all interesting dining experience. Service not great. No contact with chef, though he was making rounds that night. Too much money for indifferent approach to our experience.
I spent one night at this charming hotel down the street from the entrance to Monet's Garden. My room was on the ground floor and had a large tub. (If you want a room with a shower instead, make sure your request it!). The room was quiet …
Our 2 hosts, Stephanie and Morgan, could not have been more thoughtful or kind. We were surprised the rooms were a short way from the main hotel- but in the end loved the calm, comfortable location. It is a perfect spot to experience Monet’s home and gardens and the beauty of Giverney.
Absolutely unique! We heard Chef just received his fist Michelin star! Well deserved!!! Chocolate and celeriac? YES! Frog legs and coconut milk? YES!! Memorable dining in a country packed with expertise. We also stayed at the Plum d’Art nearby. All fabulous
We visited the restaurant only. Delicious food, very good service. Even though it’s not a ‘kids friendly’ type of restaurant, they were so good with my son, serving him adapted dishes. He loved this place as much as we did.
The restaurant:
We had the seven course dinner at Le Jardin des Plumes. The appetisers were delicious and the first course with lobster was really tasty and fresh. The second course with mackerel and beetroot was beautiful and good. The remaining five courses were not to our taste. We had one wine pairing supreme and one “créations sans alcool”. The wine pairing was more like a wine tasting - really small glasses of wine (3 whites, 1 rosé, 1 red, 1 cider and 1 dessert wine). The wines were very delicate though, especially the red wine. The “créations sans alcool” consisted of two different cocktails. The first one was with tomato, basil and tabasco and was served and presented together with the third course - not my taste. The second one was served far too late and was not presented and I actually cannot guess the ingredients. The service was very mixed, one waiter was attentive and engaged, the other seemed indifferent. The sommelier was fine.
The atmosphere in the room was a bit hectic and tense. Not the best experience at a Michelin restaurant.
The room:
We had two nights at the hotel and the receptionist was very welcoming.
The room was big and clean but very hot and without air conditioning - there was a Dyson fan. The nespresso machine did not work. The fridge was not plugged in. There is no option for food or drinks. If you want to have lunch or dinner you have to book a table in advance at the Michelin restaurant. It seems like all the personnel are prioritised to be in the restaurant which is a shame since the hotel is such a nice place with a cozy garden. Booked because of the very close location to Claude Monet’s garden.
Good and free parking at the hotel.
One night wasn’t enough and I look forward to coming back! This is a charming, small hotel in easy walking distance to Monet’s gardens. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful - I would’ve loved to have just stayed a few days and pretended …
the restaurant was superb, must try for food lovers, i loved the local ingredients that shined through the menu. Every dish was like a festival of flavors being paired beautifully. service was very nice 👌
